In less than two years, this is the one thing that has gone from an “exotic” to a “must-have” for the corporate world. AI is being incorporated into the processes of businesses in all sectors — and there’s a clear need to hire individuals who can use it effectively.
It involves creating automation pipelines, creating effective prompts that deliver quality results and enabling teams to work smarter with tools such as ChatGPT, Claude and Midjourney. It’s one of the most popular skills 2026 has ever released and is largely a remote skill.

DevOps engineers are responsible for deploying and operating pipelines to continuously ship software — and without ever having to be in the same room as the servers. This is one of the best-paid skills to learn online at the moment, especially with the limited availability of platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud in the enterprise infrastructure sector these days.

Data is everywhere. The folks who can interpret it, who can convert numbers to decision-making, are always in need! Better yet, the company databases reside in the cloud, and so does data work. No need to be on-site to ask a question of a database, or to create a dashboard.
The work here is done primarily in SQL, Python and various other data visualisation tools like Tableau and Power BI. In either case, these are skills that are timeless—skills that will not go out the window when the next data technology fad comes along.

Jobs in artificial intelligence, cloud and data are far from going away in the distance. The demand for skilled personnel is increasing, and so is the supply of skilled personnel… If anything, the competition for skilled personnel is increasing, and the supply of skilled personnel is lagging behind. That’s a window of opportunity.
It’s never too late to develop high-paying skills, but it’s better done last year. The second best time is “now.”
