As the world is grappling with Covid-19 pandemic and workplaces have been shuttered down with work from home being instructed for all employees, the biggest challenge that has hurdled the people is blurred boundaries between professional and personal lives. Striking a balance between work and personal life has become a highly difficult and stressful task.

Studies by expert researchers suggest that the best way to have a better balance between professional and personal lives is through better control of the customized boundaries setting these two apart. Also, a clarity of these boundaries is a must. Now that working from home is likely to be the “new normal” for quite sometime under the pandemic, working way out to achieve this balance is extremely important for a less stressful and more organized and structured days.

Even before pandemic, the clarity between the two aspects was very grim. The high use of technology was the reason of employees continuing with work even before reaching home. Now with work from home situation it has become cumbersome for employees to balance the two, especially as they are practically available 24×7.  

A technique to gently communicate your boundaries with employer is by logging off from official account post working hours, switching off the notification chime on phone, and also doing so on weekends. This is a clear reminder of your strict boundaries between work and personal time. With continuous following of this routine, the work life balance would be strictly adopted in your routine as well as would be inscribed clearly with employer and colleagues.

Furthermore, it is important for managers and employers to take their employees as an essential asset to the organization. Keeping the mental health of employees a priority as well as respecting their working hours and routine can help maintain a healthy working environment for all. A decent work life balance for employees means better productivity. A win-win for all.
