India – As per the latest data, there were around 1,48,185 cases of crime against children in 2019. It equates to 400 such crimes everyday committed in India is against children. Officials from the child rights organisation pointed out that though there is a drop in total number of crimes against children, child marriage has increased 50 per cent and online abuse has increased 400 per cent in one year.

The grieving figures suggests that crimes against children in India has increased steeply by 381 per cent in the last one decade (2010-2020) and over the same time, the number of overall crimes decreased by 2.2 per cent in the country.

Priti Mahara, who is the Director, Policy Research and Advocacy, CRY, mentioned that experiences during humanitarian crises have revealed that issues of child protection tend to get exacerbated.
