300,000+ employees. Six months. The clear message: AI is not just an option; it’s necessary.

An enterprise rollout that makes Infosys, TCS and Wipro the three biggest IT companies in India to reach the 100,000 seat mark on Microsoft 365 Copilot, one of the biggest enterprise AI rollouts ever. If you’re an IT worker on the sidelines, you are being woken up.

The Numbers That Should Get Your Attention

This isn’t a pilot. It’s not a press release stunt. The deployment now includes more than 300,000 employees, with the number of seats per company doubled in less than 6 months.

Let’s see what the data is on the ground:

  • Infosys has 91%+ of its monthly active users (MAU) across its delivery, engineering and corporate teams, according to the company.
  • In the content generation and research workflows, TCS achieves a 20-25% productivity increase, and insight generation is 2x faster.
  • 10% of Wipro employees are creating 7.5 million prompts monthly, with each person taking more than 23 AI-enabled actions per week, which equates to more than 250,000 FTE days each quarter.

These aren’t vanity metrics. They represent a paradigm change in working.

So What Does This Mean for You

The age-old question of “Should I learn AI?” is now outdated for anyone in the IT field, or even interested in IT. So, what do I learn, and how fast?

Copilot for workers is increasingly commonplace, just as an understanding of how to use email. Companies are integrating it into engineering workflow, engineering documentation, engineering reporting, engineering meeting management and client delivery. The people who will excel will be those who understand how to leverage Copilot for employees effectively and strategically, not as a shortcut, but as a thinking partner.

What Skills Should You Build Right Now?

1. Complete the Microsoft Copilot Learning Path.

Microsoft has organised certification programs to cater to enterprise customers. Learn the basics of Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365 and then delve into career-focused courses in data analysis, software development, and productivity.

2. Go Beyond Prompts — Understand Agentic AI

Wipro is the only organisation to deploy 29,000+ end-user developed agents and 60+ enterprise-class agentic solutions. The next generation isn’t simply talking to AI; they are creating AI. Creating and implementing AI agents is a rapidly growing competence.

3. Be comfortable with generative AI in your workflow

Copilot for employees doesn’t exist as a single tool, but is integrated into Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook, GitHub, and more. Having mastery of these generative AI skills will be extremely valuable on all of these surfaces.

4. Strategically building an AI career Cognitive work (analysis, problem solving and creativity)

It is the primary use of Copilot, making up 49% of the use, according to the Microsoft Work Trend Index 2026.  When it comes to skills that AI cannot replace, you should invest in developing them: critical thinking, communication and cross-functional collaboration.

The Bigger Picture: IT Workforce Transformation is Here

According to Microsoft’s data, 58% of Copilot users are now creating content that they would not have been able to create one year ago. That figure rises to 80% of power users.

Leading this way are the companies that are not giving out the licences and expecting them to take effect. Infosys’ solutions for the industry are powered by AI via its Topaz platform. TCS is developing a new model of operations called ‘Human + AI’ as part of its tcsAI programme. Wipro’s IntelligenceTM is a strategy that combines AI for operations and client engagements. All of this is centred on Copilot for employees.

It’s a message that’s hard to miss: AI adoption in the enterprise is accelerating. Rather, with global seats for Microsoft 365 Copilot continuing to increase at more than 250% in one quarter to reach 20 million, the curve is only continuing to rise.

Your Next Move

Don’t have to be an AI researcher to be relevant. However, it takes an intentional learner. This is a basic place to begin:

  1. Download the Microsoft Copilot learning path for Microsoft Learn (free) to explore Microsoft Copilot.
  2. Earn a Copilot certification to let employers know of your expertise
  3. Use Copilot in employees’ actual work tasks, such as summarising documents, writing emails, and analysing data. Apply Copilot in real-world tasks for employees, e.g., summarising documents, writing emails, analysing data.
  4. Be sure to watch what Infosys, TCS and Wipro are doing within the company — they are writing the playbook for the rest of the industry.

The IT workforce transformation is already underway. The best time to get ahead of it is 6 months ago! The second best time is now.
