What Is Conscious Quitting? Can This Trend Help Gen Z Employees?

Gen Z employees have been embracing “Conscious Quitting” in order to achieve a healthy work-life balance. Many Gen Z workers are turning their back on companies that do not align with their values. So, what is “Conscious Quitting”? Can this trend help Gen Z employees?

‘Conscious quitting’ is the newest trend at the workplace. It is practiced by many workers to achieve a great work-life balance. Millennial and Gen Z workers are willing to take pay cuts for jobs better aligned with their principles and lifestyle.

What is conscious quitting?

“Conscious quitting” is a term to describe how workers leave their jobs. In this trend, employees are leaving their current workplace for other companies that better align with their values. It is not like quiet quitting. “Conscious quitting” means actual quitting. Employees leave their jobs willingly and not because of limited growth opportunities.

Workers leave their job when their values don’t align with those of their employers. Millennials and Gen Z are entering an era of conscious quitting.

Can conscious quitting help Gen Z employees?

According to a KPMG survey, many workers turn down a job if companies do not align with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) responsibilities.

KPMG conducted a survey on 6,000 UK employees. The survey found that 20% of office workers would turn down a job if their values do not match with the company. This practice is common in one in three Gen Z employees aged 18 to 24.

According to a recent survey by Paul Polman, former Chief Executive of Unilever, many employees want to work for a company that has a positive impact on the world.

The conscious quitting trend can help Gen Z employees. If they feel that their companies are having a positive impact on the world, their morale will increase. It can also lead to a healthy work-life balance. The consciousness of being happier in their jobs helps employees to be positive.

Last year, US workers ‘quiet quitting’ sparked concerns about toxic workplaces. Many workers in the United States have been embracing the “quiet quitting” concept as they were seeking work-life balance.
