Post-pandemic future of work-life balance

Last updated on November 7th, 2020 at 12:14 am

People’s perspectives about work-life balance have always been divided. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has reimagined the way we work blurring the line between work and life. Several questions are being raised about the changing dynamics of working in an office and working from home across the world.

It is been perceived that with the pandemic outbreak, the future of work-life balance arrived early. As employees juggle between their personal and professional life while sitting in the comfort of their homes, work-life balance has become more important than ever.

However, as many companies begin to reopen their offices in the post-pandemic recovery process, it is crucial for businesses and employees to understand the challenges that lie ahead and how to respond to them effectively to achieve a healthy work-life balance.

COVID-19 brought a revolution in remote working, allowing employees to manage their work and perform other activities. At the same time, work has shifted to a more virtual and distributed setting where managers are able to track progress through online tools. As per reports, the use of remote data collection has increased significantly during the period of lockdown – with 16% of the employers using technology to monitor the working hours and activities of their employees.

However, in the long-haul, it is going to expand and diversify with companies seeking to advance remote working as the threat of pandemic persists. Flexibility in work from home will be helpful for all employees in the long-term. It will also provide executives and managers to choose quality over quantity of work, noting that productivity and mentoring have improved since remote work has begun across parts of the world.

With workplace culture shifting online, companies are attempting to create an inclusive environment. Activities such as corporate lunches and parties are moving online leading to the creation of a virtual community. Managers are looking forward to incorporating this virtual community into the in-person community in the coming time. While changes are part of every organization, this is a moment of transformative change. At times of endless web meetings, overloaded email boxes, and increasing work stress, companies across all levels must plan for the future of work to bring out the best potential of their employees.
