The Workers Rights 
A big batch of Myanmar migrant workers and employers are now close to their expiration date of legal work and residency permit renewal. As under a policy agenda set forth in the July Cabinet resolution, December 11 is the deadline for workers who wish to retain their legal status will be December 11, 2027.
It is not only the date when old documents come to an end. To ensure that the employment is not disrupted and that the extension process continues as scheduled the employer and authorised representatives must file the applicable electronic renewal application before the deadline for renewal.
Who Is Covered by the Extension?
The renewal process mainly involves renewing workers who have expiring passports or travel documents and visas that are closer to the expiration date. Anyone who has full documentation to file electronically should start to do so before possible.
The others are workers who lack full travel documents, such as expiring Certificates of Identity. There is a necessity to rectify these workers’ documentation issues promptly as properly filed travel documents are required for the travel document renewal process.
Four Steps Workers and Employers Must Complete
1. Fill out all medical and insurance forms. All workers are to be health-screened at an authorised health screening centre. Anybody not covered will need to take out an approved health insurance policy or sign up to the relevant social security scheme.
2. Return the electronic application. Employers or delegated persons or agencies should file to the relevant Department of Employment electronic filing system by 4.30 pm, November 11.
3. Make your required payments. The renewal fee shown is THB 1,000 per worker, which includes a THB 100 application fee and a THB 900 fee for the work permit. The last day to make payments is Dec. 11 at 8 p.m.
4. Finalise passport and visa paperwork. Once the basic Work Permit process has been completed, employees can proceed to have up to date passport contents combined with the visa endorsement until June 30th, 2027.
What Happens After Filing?
Successful applicants for the renewal by the employee are granted an extension framework to continue working until December 11, 2027. The policy also creates a temporary legal status till 30th June 2027, allowing workers more time to finish the formal visa endorsement process.
Employers are not to wait until the last day. Checking documents early, attending medical appointments, and submitting documents electronically minimize the possibility of delays resulting from missing or overloaded systems.
