UN independent expert on protection against violence and discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity Victor Madrigal-Borloz will visit Cambodia soon from today. This visit is going to be of 10 days long, and Victor Madrigal-Borloz will be in Cambodia from January 10 to January 20 of 2023.

The UN counselor is Visiting the country Cambodia after getting the invitation from the government. He will visit Battambang, Siem Reap, and Phnom Penh during these 10 days.

Madrigal-Borloz said in a statement that “This visit is a major step in compliance with the mandate to understand and communicate the human rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and gender-diverse (LGBT) people,”

The Government authorities, religious leaders, human rights advocates, and supporters will meet and engage with the expert team during this visit. They will talk about many serious matters and units adopted to minimize discrimination and violence. The center will be the sexual status and gender and their problems in society. They will look at the ground reality, facts, and challenges that are present there. After that, all the units will mutually analyze the issues and try to find out a solution. 

Victor Madrigal-Borloz also said that I am going to the Combodia and my views after seeing the reality, of the situation, will provide me a base to assess the situation of LGBTQ+ and after then I can also advise the stakeholders there.

Though the UN independent expert Victor Madrigal-Borloz will attend a press conference there on the 20th of January 2023, the press conference will happen at the Sunway Hotel at the local time of 3 PM. In that press conference, there are only a very limited number of journalists are allowed. 

The experts will show their reports of all findings and recommendations to the UN Human Rights Council in the coming June 2023.

So, the world is in wait and watch mood for the final reports by the UN expert.
