Myanmar Payroll 2026: MMK 7,800 Daily Allowance Breakdown and SSB Contribution Caps

Myanmar payroll

Myanmar payroll compliance 2026 requires employers to differentiate between the statutory minimum wage and additional daily allowances while correctly applying Social Security Board contribution ceilings. The minimum compensation package is currently MMK 7,800 for an 8-hour working day.

MMK 7,800 Daily Compensation Breakdown

The minimum wage remains at MMK 4,800/day or MMK 600/hr as per the National Committee for Determining Minimum Wage Notification No. 1/2025. The additional allowances are raised by a further MMK 1,000 and the total additional allowances of MMK 3,000 will be taken effect from 1st October 2025, making MMK 7,800 the daily extra allowance.

The employers should therefore indicate the MMK 4,800 as basic wage and the MMK 3,000 as additional allowances separately instead of the base wages alone being MMK 7,800 payable.

Overtime Calculation

These extras will not count toward overtime calculations. The basic calculation for a worker who gets the minimum basic wage is (MMK 4,800 / 8 hours) x 2 = MMK 1,200 per extra hour of work.

SSB Contribution Caps in Myanmar

The contribution to SSB is targeted at about 3% from the employer and 2% from the employee, up to a cap of monthly contributions. The highest salary that can be contributed will be MMK 300,000, which equates to a maximum employer contribution of MMK 9,000, and an employee contribution of MMK 6,000, per month.

In this case, if someone is earning MMK 300,000, the employee pays MMK 6,000 whereas the employer pays MMK 9,000. The capped amounts continue to apply to an employee who is making MMK 1.5 million.

Personal Income Tax and Payroll Controls

The salary income tax is progressive in Myanmar up to 25%. Stakeholder translation refrains itself from providing any specific explanations, but the present guidance specifies that annual salary income of under MMK 4.8 million is exempt from salary tax, which was not the case before.

Employers should have their payroll setups to distinguish between base wages and other allowances, limit calculations of SSB to MMK 300,000, and ensure that they are correct overtime formulas. These controls can assist in decreasing the payroll error and can aid in the statutory reporting.
