Employers in Jordan only have until September 30, 2026, to regularize the status of their foreign workers before the current labor amnesty ends. The program offers a financial aid solution to businesses and workers for the remediation of expired permits, fees, penalties and other issues of compliance.
The Ministry Of Labour has called upon the employers to have the necessary steps accomplished before the stipulated date to ensure the workers are regular members of the social security system. Labor directorates throughout the region have also extended working hours until 5 PM until applications are processed, on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.
Key Financial Benefits Under the Amnesty
Employees who qualify can enjoy substantial reductions thanks to the regularization program. Overstay and late renewal fees are to be waived for 100%, and those who qualify are eligible for 50% reduction in eligible back-dated work permit fees.
Under the agreement, employers who are regularizing laborers are only entitled to pay the current work permit fee for the last year of service, instead of old fee totals. Workers opting for permanent departure can enjoy full waivers of fees and penalties that may be applicable in the past and also processes on a matter of their entitlement to the social security corporation.
Employee Transfer Rules Have Been Eased
Temporary arrangements also pave the way for easier changing of jobs for some foreign workers. Under the conditions, workers whose permits have expired or been cancelled can be transferred without having to get a release certificate from their last employer.
If the eligibility requirements are fulfilled, certain employees who were previously reported absent could also be eligible for transfer without the permission of the former sponsor. Similarly, domestic workers who have had their permits expired or cancelled for more than two years may be able to move to the commercial sectors.
What Employers Should Do Before September 30?
Employers are requested to immediately undertake a comprehensive review of foreign employees. This should encompass verification of work permits, residency, expired work permits, and employees of contractors and labour suppliers.
Any pending renewals, transfers and other regularization applications should then be made under the normal procedure of the appropriate Ministry of Labour by the company. Of course, the employers’ priority should also be to confirm whether subcontractors working in their work areas are compliant or not to avoid potential risk for their role.
Enforcement After the Deadline
The 30th September cut off is significant since the temporary financial incentives will be lost after this date. Employers should now try to avoid waiting for the last day, in specific when making multiple corrections to employee records.
Eligibility, fees and necessary documents will be subject to official Ministry guidance; each individual business may have different requirements.
