India planning to repatriate 18,000 undocumented immigrants in US
Indian and US authorities are collaborating to identify undocumented Indian immigrants in the US for deportation in order to demonstrate an interest in protecting legal immigration visas for scores of Indian citizens.
US President Donald Trump returned to his office on January 20. He signed a number of Executive Orders (EO) on his first day, including declaring a national emergency and mobilising troops along the US-Mexico border.
Sources told Bloomberg that 18,000 undocumented Indian immigrants had been identified but the true number is likely to be much higher. There are an estimated 725,000 undocumented Indians in the US, making them the third largest group in the country.
