Trump Administration Orders Immediate Leave for Federal DEI Staff, Signaling Mass Layoffs

The Trump administration first made federal DEI staff work without pay pending their permanent termination. The Office of Personnel Management issued its January 21, 2021 memo to put Diversity and Inclusion staff on paid leave while President Trump developed an executive order to dismantle Biden diversity initiatives.

All federal agencies must put DEI department staff on paid leave by Wednesday at 5 p.m. and shut down all DEI webpages right away according to the presidential directive. According to NBC News, “Federal agencies are asked to submit a written plan by Jan. 31 for dismissing the employees”. Federal enforcement agencies can now examine every private sector diversity program under this new classification from President Trump.

The directive starts a national movement against diversity programs and equal opportunity tools including training protocols and farm and housing programs for minority communities. Many federal departments are removing their DEI content from their official websites ahead of the new regulation.
