Paris agreement to illegal immigration: Donald Trump had a busy first day as US President
US President Donald Trump returned to his office on January 20. The date also noted the Martin Luther King Jr Day. The businessman-turned-politician signed a series of Executive Orders (EO) on the first day itself, in order to fulfil some of his campaign promises.
1. TikTok
Trump has granted a 75-day reprieve for social media giant TikTok, delaying the ban.
2. Full pardons
On the first day, Trump signed the full pardon of about 1,500 people for their role in the infamous US Capitol riots of January 6, 2021.
3. National emergency
Trump has declared a national emergency at the US-Mexico border.
4. Refugees
The US President has suspended refugee resettlement for 6 months and signed orders to put an end to ‘catch and release’ policies.
5. Birthright citizenship
Donald Trump has signed an Executive Order to end automatic birthright citizenship for children of non-permanent residents. But legal issues remain.
6. Paris agreement
The US seems to have started the process of leaving the Paris climate agreement.
7. Male and female
Donald Trump has made it the official policy that there are only 2 recognised sexes.
8. Hiring freeze
Trump has imposed a hiring freeze for federal employees, except in some areas.
