‘Terrorism has changed’ – UK PM Keir Starmer on Southport attack
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer recently highlighted that “terrorism has changed” and the UK faces a fresh threat after the Southport attack. He is raising concerns about that threat coming from extreme violence carried out by “loners, misfits and young men in their bedrooms.”
In relation to the brutal Southport murders last year, Starmer said that a public inquiry, announced last night, is going to ask and address difficult questions – unburdened by cultural or institutional sensitivities.
Rudakubana, 18, has pleaded guilty to killing three young girls in a knife attack at a dance class last year. He has also admitted to 10 attempted murders, the production of ricin, and the possession of a terrorist document.
In relation to a question about if he believes the Southport attack is an act of terrorism, Starmer noted that it is an act of “extreme violence clearly intended to terrorise,” and he is concerned that it appears to be different to the more organised terrorist acts seen earlier.
