Some essential changes are anticipated in the employment landscape of Egypt in 2026, such as new updates to wages and annual leave/payroll compliance. However, for employers and employees it is important to differentiate between the minimum wage in public transit (EGP 8,000), and the minimum wage in the private sector as specified in the frame considered (EGP 7,000).
EGP 8,000 Minimum Wage for Public-Sector Workers
The minimum wage for civil servants, government ministries and public-sector employees from July 1, 2026, is EGP 8,000 per month. The rise is part of the state budget budget cuts and will set a higher base wage for government workers.
The statutory minimum is EGP 7,000/month for private sector enterprises. Part-Timers receive the minimum rate of EGP 28 per hour with a yearly periodic increase of at least 3% of social insurance contribution wage or the minimum of EGP 250 per month, whichever is greater.
Annual Leave Increases With Service and Age
Egypt’s working environment also offers more leaves from year to year. Staff members who have been working continuously for six months, receive 21 days of fully paid annual leave.
After 10 years of service the entitlement becomes 30 days. All staff who are 50 or over are entitled to 45 days paid annual leave a year, irrespective of the number of years with the employer.
Annual leave may be allocated for up to 6 days which can be used as casual / emergency leave. This may be taken without prior notice for a maximum of two (2) consecutive days in total for each occurrence.
Social Insurance and Tax Rules
Employers must apply the stated thresholds of social-insurance correctly as well to ensure payroll compliance. The minimum insured wage is EGP 2,700 monthly and the maximum insured wage is EGP 16,700 monthly.
The framework documents a typical social insurance contribution of 11% by the employee and 18.75% by the employer. The income tax is progressive and the rate will increase according to income, but no income will be taxed above EGP 27.5/100, with an exemption limit of EGP 40,000 per annum.
What Employers Should Do?
To align with the applicable thresholds, the companies should go through the process of revision of the salary classifications, leave-management systems and payroll calculations define the threshold. Service milestones and employee age “50” should be automatically identified.
The employers should also make sure that the ranges (EGP 2,700–EGP 16,700) of the wage calculation are clearly indicated within its parameters and differentiate between the private sector requirement benchmarks and its public sector ones.
