Walz Signs Bill Prohibiting Discrimination Based On Ethical Hairstyles

The Minnesota law will now include specific protections against discrimination based on ethnic hairstyles.

On Wednesday, Tim Walz signed the Crown Act into law. The law adds hairstyle protections to the state’s existing human rights law. Minnesota Human Rights Act will include natural hairstyles and textures would be specifically covered in it. Which protects “braids, locs, and twists”.

Walz said in a statement that he gave in front of the media that Minnesota has no place for any discrimination.

The signing of the CROWN Act is a ray of hope for Black Minnesotans. We are showing that they also deserve a better life. The law will secure their opportunity to live as humans, they also deserve to live and work free from discrimination.

Tim Walz said after signing the law that today we are taking a major step in building an equitable Minnesota.

Last Thursday, the Senate voted 45/19 to pass the bill and implement it as law.

Sen. Bobby Joe Champion who is the sponsor of the bill said that the bill will secure long-term protection against discrimination. Black women will get more benefits because they faced discrimination in the workplace for their hairstyles.

While this is not the first time a country has taken steps toward gender equality, Iran’s situation is not hidden from us!

Although we welcome the law.
