Taiwan Welcomes Filipinos with Extended Visa Free Entry Until 2026

An extension of Taiwan’s visa-free travel programme for Philippine passport holders has been renewed for another year. This extension allows for a 14-day stay until July 31, 2026. The renewal was unveiled by Foreign Minister Lin Chia‑lung during a Philippine Independence Day event held in Taipei and is meant to promote the strengthening of relationships and regional collaboration.

Minister Lin called attention to the shared values of democracy and cooperation, claiming that in 2024, over 415,000 Filipinos visited Taiwan, which is the highest number of visits from Southeast Asia. He also mentioned the importance of 160,000 Filipino migrant workers and their contribution to society.

Who qualifies and for how long?

  • Available only to Philippine passport holders; does not include diplomatic or official passports.
  • Permits are valid for 14 days upon each visit under the current pilot visa-free arrangement available since November 2017.

What are the dates?

Previously, visa-free status was going to end on July 31, 2025. Now visa-free status will extend to July 31, 2026.

Why this matters

The Philippines could see more than 500,000 arrivals in 2025 with initiatives including a Taiwan Tourism Information Centre in Manila and increased air connectivity.

Lin drew attention to the “spirit of reciprocity”, indicating Taiwan’s hope that the Philippines will extend visa-free entry to Taiwanese visitors.

The extension reaffirms a policy under Taiwan’s New Southbound Policy that will enhance ties with Southeast Asian countries.

What’s next?

Official announcement: Anticipated on Monday from Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Reciprocal arrangements: Taiwan expects to announce the same visa arrangements for its citizens, subject to its diplomatic processes.

This extension presents a great opportunity for Filipinos to explore Taiwan for the next 12 months and offers the possibility of reciprocal travel jurisdictions that could enhance tourist visits, build and strengthen cultural exchange opportunities and foster ongoing mutual diplomatic relations between the two countries.
