Step-by-Step: Applying for Spain’s New “Arraigo” Regularization Program

The immigration continued to change in Spain due to the last reforms of the figures of the “Arraigo” which have made the legalization process much easier. The new regulations, which are effective recently, cut down the continuous residency of three years to two years on most categories. The reform presents the Arraigo Sociolaboral that simplifies the access of individuals with job opportunities and the Arraigo Socioformativo that simplifies the access of individuals to training. These changes aim to combat the shadow economy and provide a faster Spain Residency Process for migrants already contributing to society. It is important to learn about these new ways in order to be able to maneuver within the system and get your future set in the country.

Navigating the Spain Residency Process

First of all, ensure that you have the lowered two-year continuous residency condition. Unlike previous rules, the new Spain Residency Process is more flexible regarding absences. You should be able to show your residency by the Padrón (municipal registration) and a pure criminal record in Spain and your native land. In the Sociolaboral route, a valid employment contract of minimum 20 hours per week has now become adequate, as compared to the tighter demands of the previous past.

Completing Your Legal Status Application

After the procedure of verification, prepare your supporting documents that include valid passport and evidence of social integration or training attendance. Submit your Legal Status Application electronically through the Mercurio platform or at your local Foreigners’ Office. The new system will also enable students to work a maximum of 30 hours thus forcing them into the labor market even as they study.
