italian judges rule against giorgia meloni's policy on repatriating illegal immigrants
The Italian migration case has taken a more controversial direction as Italian judges just ruled against Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s policy on repatriating illegal immigrants, especially those from countries deemed unsafe.
One of the most notable cases is that of some Egyptian immigrants. The court determined that returning immigrants to Egypt is not legally permissible, raising concerns over the Middle Eastern country’s human rights record.
The case is getting a lot of attention on social media as three Egyptian nationals, earlier arrested in Italy for allegedly plotting terrorist attacks and supporting the ISIS group, could not be repatriated, highlighted Visegrad24 in a post on X.
The richest person across the globe, Elon Musk, has triggered controversy through his remarks targeting Italian judges as they blocked a migrant transfer arrangement between Italy and Albania, stressing that the people “need to go”.
Under the arrangement, the Italian government is seeking to reduce the number of migrants coming to the country through illegal routes by holding men from certain countries in albanian facilities and simultaneously processing their asylum applications.
US President-elect Donald Trump has named Musk and former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramasamy to lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). He added that a smaller and more efficient government is a “gift” to the country.
