How Remote Workers Can Separate Work From Home Life

Remote work may be amenable and effective, however, boundaries are easily blurred within a short duration in case work mode and home mode occupy the same space and time. The remedy is not complex it has clear guidelines, routine procedures and an arrangement that informs your mind when the day begins and ends.

Build hard boundaries (time + space)

  • Establish a time to begin and end it, and consider them like a commute: a brisk walk, morning ritual, or day plan.
  • Build your own work space (at least a corner of the bed) and do not work in bed or on the couch.
  • Apply use habits: shut down tabs, make a list of the top 3 things to do tomorrow, and turn off work notifications on your phone.
  • Do not disturb blocks and visible signals (door closed, headphones on) in the event that you stay with others.

Protect your attention and recovery

  • Deep work Time-block Deep work along with batch meetings; regular switching of contexts results in work extending into the evenings.
  • Go off-screen at lunch or on a 10-minute stroll or a stretch.
  • Have a work and a personal device or profile to limit just checking behavior.
  • Purpose end of the day with something personal (exercise, cooking, reading) so that home time is like it is again at home.
  • Work–life balance is often sold as a simple numbers game: work fewer hours, feel less stressed, be happier. The truth is that balance is not only time but how you are spending your time
