German Postal Workers Settle Salary Increase After Strikes
According to an agreement between Deutsche Post and the Verdi trade union, German postal employees will receive a raise in salaries.
The agreement implies an increase of 2 % in wages in April 2025 and 3% in the next April 2026. The agreement is for about 170,000 employees with one more extra paid holiday for employees beginning in 2026.
Strikes Result in Pay Deal
Strikes of thousands of mail carriers, parcel handlers, and postal workers over weeks have now ended up in a pay deal that includes almost all that have-affiliated to Deutsche Post. Originally, Verdi asked for a 7 % pay raise plus three additional holidays.
After four rounds of negotiations and a very heated discussion that started on Monday, both sides have been able to reach a compromise.
Procurement Maintenance of Workers Power
Drew Thomas, the human resources officer for Deutsche Post, stated that the company is making efforts to provide such to their workers as costs continue to go high.
For lead negotiator Andrea Kocsis of Verdi, it was the sheer determination of postal workers going on strike that made the agreement possible.
The wage contract is valid for two years, with retroactive effect from Jan 1, 2024.
Deutsche Post is a company of the DHL Group, the biggest logistics company worldwide.
