elon musk and jeff bezos not in support of work life balance concept
Elon Musk — the founder, chairman, CEO and chief technology officer of SpaceX and the CEO, product architect and former chairman of Tesla — and Jeff Bezos — the founder, executive chairman, and former president and CEO of Amazon — are reportedly not in support of the work-life balance concept.
The concept of work-life balance is facing skepticism in recent months. Tech leaders are challenging a balance between professional and personal life.
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, and Tesla CEO Elon Musk have repeatedly slammed the concept of work-life balance.
What top tech leaders have said about work-life balance in the past few years? Do they have work-life balance?
In 2018, Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, said that he never liked the idea of “work-life balance.” He suggested the concept of “work-life harmony,” where being happy at home affects employees’ performance at work.
Amazon layoffs have also become common in recent months. Earlier this year, Jeff Bezos made headlines for showing the exit door to 18,000 employees.
Elon Musk has always been skeptical about work-life balance. After acquiring a company called X (previously Twitter), he asked employees to work 84-hours per week. Elon Musk also criticized the work from home trend, calling it “morally wrong.”
Satya Nadella, the executive chairman and CEO of Microsoft, said work-life balance is a false concept. He stressed the need for “work-life harmony” over work life balance. According to Satya Nadella, if a person is happy at home, he will be happy at work.
N.R. Narayana Murthy, the well-respected Founder of Infosys, also slammed the concept of work-life balance. He told employees to work 70 hours a week. Indian labor union, All India IT and ITeS Employees’ Union, condemned his comments, saying that a 70-hour work week is “illegal.”
