Nearly 300,000 Afghans left Pakistan

According to Human Rights Watch, the Pakistani authorities used threats, abuse, and detention to force Afghan migrants without legal status to return to Afghanistan or face deportation by November 1, 2023. Fereshta Abbasi, a Researcher in the Asia division at Human Rights Watch, said that Afghan migrants without registration faced harassment, assault, beatings, and arbitrary detention in Pakistan.
The United Nations called the situation a human rights catastrophe. Migrant women and girls are at great risk of facing human rights abuses.

She wrote on Instagram, “Pakistan has been a supporter of many Afghan refugee families for decades. I am saddened they would so abruptly push back refugees who face the impossible realities of trying to survive in today’s Afghanistan, where women have again been deprived of all rights and the possibility of education, many are being imprisoned, and there is a deep humanitarian crisis.”
The renowned Hollywood actress further said, “It is yet another example of the backsliding in human rights globally.”
