Trump Organization Approved to Hire 209 Foreign Workers, Contradicting ‘Hire American’ Promise
This is in contrast to Trump’s presidential campaign motto, ‘Buy American, hire American,’ former President Trump’s businesses stand to employ 209 foreign workers in 2024. The Trump Organization has also tried to hire H-2A and H-2B guest workers for the events and for services at Mar-a-Lago and for his vineyard in Virginia.
The hiring approach gives a clear picture of a disconnect between Trump’s political narratives and his business orientation. In the last 17 years, Trump’s entities procured at least 1,849 temporary foreign workers, 382 of whom were hired during his presidency. The foreign workers, paid just a little more than the federal minimum wage, will be hired up to May 2025, which means up to 132 foreign nationals on the payroll if Trump gets back to the presidency.
This trend of hiring foreign workers does not end with Trump himself. Even potential cabinet members like Elon Musk are currently searching for foreign workers to bring into the country. Be it Tesla or SpaceX, all of Musk’s companies have recently upped the ante on H-1B visa, which allows foreign professionals in specialized skills to work in the United States.
