Vanuatu Jolts Due to the Significant Damage Caused by 7.3 Magnitude of Earthquake
A high-octane earthquake hit Vanuatu island with a magnitude of 7.3. It caused considerable damage at the west of the Pacific island around 18.6 miles, at the capital of Vanuatu, Port Vila which is around 35.5 miles, and pulled down the buildings, crashed cars, bridges and it led to landslides in some of the disaster vulnerable places.
Collapse of Embassy
“Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this earthquake and the US government will work closely with our partners in Vanuatu” – US Embassy
As per the findings, one casualty took place due to this powerful earthquake and many collateral damages which is followed by the collapse of Western Embassies including US, New Zealand, United Kingdom and France. Tsunami Warning
Post the earthquake Tsunami warning has been circulated to the nations near and around the island. But later it was called off and said there could only be some minor sea level fluctuations.
Vanuatu Red Cross
After the websites and other social media platforms of Vanuatu government go offline and inactive many rescue operators including Vanuatu Red Cross. And the island is now receiving helping hands from other nations’ Red Cross members.
“Trained and experienced Red Cross teams are on the ground and ready to assist affected communities with pre-positioned relief items. Australian Red Cross will continue to monitor the situation closely”
The disturbing videos of the Red Cross members rescuing the injured people from the Vila Central Hospital is getting viral all over the world. The Fiji rescue team are involved in quick rescue actions at the affected locations and all the necessary humanitarian aids are being supplied swiftly by those members and constructed efforts are made to restore the communication breakdowns.
“It was the most violent earthquake I’ve experienced in my 21 years living in Vanuatu and in the Pacific Islands. I’ve seen a lot of large earthquakes, never one like this”, said a journalist named McGarry based in Port Vila.
