January 2024: Indian Railways Will Bring Migrant Trains

The Indian Railway Board intends to introduce general category, non-air conditioned trains for low-income groups across the country, including migrant workers and laborers. Only sleeper and available class passengers will be served by these trains, which are anticipated to begin operating in January 2024.

To serve low-income groups across the country, including migrant workers and laborers, the Railway Board plans to introduce general category, non-air conditioned trains.

This action comes in response to a study that identified states with a sizable population of low-income travelers who must endure lengthy waitlists for tickets.

Such special trains were previously only run during holidays or peak travel times. As a result of the overcrowding on passenger trains, it has been proposed that this arrangement be made into a permanent fixture.

The new trains, anticipated to begin service in January 2024, will only offer sleeper and general class service and will consist of non-air-conditioned LHB coaches. These trains still need to have a name thanks to railways.

The Railways had previously operated migrant special trains for workers to return to their native places during the coronavirus crisis.

Before, these kinds of special trains only ran on holidays or when there were a lot of people traveling. Because passenger trains are often too full, it has been suggested that this arrangement be made permanent.

New migrant trains will begin operating from the states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand.

Railway Board Announces New Special Trains to Serve Multiple States In a recent announcement, the Railway Board has revealed its plans to introduce a series of special trains that will cater to the transportation needs of several states across India. The states set to benefit from this initiative include UP, Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Punjab, Assam, Gujarat, Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and Andhra Pradesh. The introduction of these special trains aims to

Officials say that most skilled and unskilled workers, artisans, laborers, and other types of workers from these states go to metros and big cities to find work.

Only sleeper-general class coaches will be used on the trains for these people.

They will also be on the regular schedule so that people can make reservations ahead of time.
