Hilton Australia Asks Job Seekers To Send TikTok Videos Instead Of CV

The Hilton hotel chain, the brand of American multinational hospitality company Hilton, has adopted new hiring practices to hire new employees. Hilton Australia has asked job seekers to submit TikTok videos instead of resumes. This wreaked havoc among job seekers.

Hilton shared a video on its TikTok account, @hiremehiltonau, urging job seekers to showcase their skills and suitability for the job in a one-minute video. Instead of submitting CV, Hilton advises job seekers to showcase how they would add to the experience for Hilton guests.

How to apply?

Job seekers will make a 1-minute video and upload it on TikTok, tagging Hilton. They need to use the hashtag #hiremehilton. If the company likes a candidate, the HR will message the candidate on TikTok.

Mary Hogg, Hilton Australasia’s regional human resources (HR) director, said that TikTok would attract gen z workers. Mary Hogg told The Guardian, “When you need somebody who’s going to have really good interpersonal skills, to be able to handle guest relationships or any of that side of things, you’ve got no idea if they can do that from the paper side.”

Through TikTok, the company is evaluating interpersonal skills of the candidates. This can be evaluated via video and not via paper resume.

The hotel posted the video on TikTok on 9 November. The 34 second video ends with the hotel saying that they are excited and look forward to “TikTok resume”.

Are written CVs accepted?

If someone does not have a TikTok account, they can still send traditional written CVs. Resumes and CVs are still accepted through the company’s website. They can visit the https://jobs.hilton.com/apac/en and submit their CVs.

The company said in its website, “#1 Hospitality Company ranked by Great Place to Work. Come for the job, thrive in your career, and enjoy the journey of Making the Stay.”

Hilton Australia said, “Your dream career might be just around the corner and don’t worry if creating videos isn’t your style – we’re equally happy to accept traditional written CVs.”
