Fair work is concerned with treating all workers, irrespective of their background, location or industry, justly, with good remunerations, and in safe and ethical working conditions. Various NGOs and international programs around the globe are advocating labor rights, equality, and sustainability at work places. Their vision is to safeguard vulnerable employees, end exploitation and to advocate decent working conditions to everyone. 1. International Labour Organization (ILO)
ILO is a UN organisation that is at the forefront in encouraging decent work to every person. It establishes global standards of labor, combats child and forced labor, and promotes equal pay and safety at the workplace. The ILO has more than 180 member states whose policies affect governments and employers all over the world to practice social justice and fair labor.
2. Fairtrade International
Fairtrade International mobilizes the producers and workers in the developing nations by providing fair wages, providing ethical supply chains. The fairtrade label ensures production of such commodities as coffee, chocolate, and textiles in safe environments and with fair pay. This initiative is a direct assistance to millions of farmers and artisans in favor of sustainability and ethical consumerism.
3. Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI)
ETI is a coalition of businesses, labor unions and Non Governmental Organizations, which strives to ensure the rights of workers in the global arena. ETI assists companies in tracking and enhancing situations at supply chains throughout the world.
4. Better Work Program
One of the initiatives aimed at ameliorating the situation of the garment industry is the Better Work Program developed by ILO and the International Finance Corporation (IFC). It trains and evaluates the factories of such countries as Vietnam, Bangladesh, and Indonesia, following the labor laws and improving the productivity and satisfaction of the workers.
