2025 has been a year of global unrest and bold activism. From environmental concerns to political resistance, people across the world have taken to the streets — and screens — to make their voices heard. Here’s a look at 10 of the most powerful and influential protests that captured global attention this year.

1. “Hands Off!” U.S. National Protests (April 5, 2025)

In the largest single-day nationwide protests of the year, over 1,400 locations across all 50 U.S. states demonstrated against the Trump administration’s policies and Elon Musk’s influence. Dubbed “Hands Off!”, the mass action marked the biggest U.S. protest since mid‑century politics.

2. March for Gaza (Dhaka, Bangladesh) (April 12, 2025)

Between 100,000 and 1 million participated in a mass procession at Suhrawardy Udyan, organized by Palestine solidarity groups. Protesters demanded a ceasefire in Gaza and for Bangladesh to sever ties with Israel. It became the country’s largest pro‑Palestinian protest ever.

3. Red Line Demonstrations (The Hague, Netherlands) (May 18 & June 15, 2025)

Two massive protests, each drawing 100,000–150,000 participants in red clothing, demanded Dutch sanctions against Israel and suspension of EU‑Israel agreements. They were the largest Dutch protests in two decades.

4. Los Angeles ICE Raid Protests (June 6, 2025)

Following ICE raids targeting alleged undocumented migrants, protests erupted in downtown L.A. Some escalated into clashes with police, though most remained peaceful criticism of federal immigration enforcement.

5. Ukraine Anti‑Corruption Mass Dissent (Late July 2025)

After a parliamentary move to undermine anti‑graft agencies, thousands protested across Ukraine. The demonstrations swelled into the largest since Russia’s 2022 invasion, forcing President Zelensky and Parliament to reverse the law reinstating the independence of NABU and SAPO.

6. Balochistan Protests (Pakistan) (From March 20, 2025, ongoing)

In response to the Jaffar Express hijacking and disappearances of Baloch activists, protesters initiated regional shutdowns. At least three were killed by police in Quetta, and demonstrations spread to Karachi and abroad. Demand: release the disappeared and government accountability.

7. Serbian Anti‑Corruption Student Protests (July 29, 2025)

Clashes erupted in Novi Pazar after security forces forcibly expelled students camping inside university buildings. Originating in November 2024 after an infrastructure collapse, the protests now span multiple cities over demands for snap elections and condemnation of corruption.

8. Venice Anti‑Bezos Tourism Protest (Late June 2025)

Around 1,000 activists opposed Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez’s wedding in Venice, criticizing overtourism and elite privilege. Under pressure, the couple relocated their reception—marking a symbolic victory for anti‑gentrification activism.

9. Dhaka Student‑Led Governance Protests (Early August 2025)

On the anniversary of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s exit, students organized rallies demanding a new constitution and systemic reforms. This demonstrates rising youth mobilization and dissatisfaction with Bangladesh’s political apparatus.

10. Sydney Gaza Solidarity March (August 4, 2025)

An estimated **90,000–300,000 people** marched across the Harbour Bridge in solidarity with Gaza, protesting Australia’s inaction and media censorship. The peaceful protest lasted five hours and was notable both for scale and its disruption of key infrastructure.

Each of these protests catalysed political shifts, policy reversals, or amplified global visibility of pressing issues throughout 2025.
