U.S. President Donald Trump has announced plans to expand a migrant detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. This detention shelter will provide space for around 30,000 people. The facility has been used in the past to detain migrants from Haiti and Cuba.
During his speech in White House Trump said the expansion would help detain “the worst criminal illegal aliens” who pose a threat to the American people. He added that some individuals would be sent to Guantanamo because their home countries “cannot be trusted” to keep them detained.
Tom Homan the border czar of Trump has confirmed that Immigration and Customs Enforcement would oversee the facility. He described it as a place for the “worst of the worst” and assured that preparations were already underway.
