Reimbursable travel expenses for remote and hybrid employees were revised by the Office of the President on October 26, 2022.
Those revised guidelines were rescinded on March 6, 2023, and the University of California will return to its current interpretation of the Business and Finance Bulletin G-28 Travel Regulations, which state, “expenses for travel between the traveler’s residence and headquarters [commuting expense} shall not be allowed.”
As a result, the revised guidelines for reimbursable travel expenses for remote and hybrid employees conflicted with the existing Business and Finance Bulletin on Travel Regulations.
An assessment of workplace modality (i.e., remote, hybrid, and on-site employees) and schedule flexibility will be conducted by the Vice President for Systemwide Human Resources, along with the interaction between the definitions and practices and current policies and procedures.
UC Riverside’s AVC of Human Resources, Alex Najera, will participate in the workgroup to ensure UC Riverside is included in the discussion and assessment of workplace modality.
Central Human Resources and Business and Financial Services will provide campus updates as additional information becomes available.
To learn more about the changes and information, please refer to the March 6, 2023, letter from the Office of the President.
