SBI Bank Strike 2026 – Will ATMs, UPI, Net Banking and YONO App Work During the Four-day Strike?

For SBI Customers: What You need to be Aware of

The SBI Bank Strike has been making news in India as it could trigger a disruption in the banking system for 4 days, affecting millions of account holders. The latest bank strike news informs that staff members belonging to All India State Bank of India Staff Federation (AISBISF) have announced a nationwide strike by SBI employees in May 2026, which is scheduled for May 25 and May 26, 2026 (Monday and Tuesday).

But this, coupled with the fourth Saturday (May 23) and Sunday (May 24), which are regular banking holidays, could mean a four-day-long SBI bank shutdown. Let’s go through this public sector bank strike by the numbers and see how it will affect your day-to-day banking.

Will SBI Branches Be Open During the Strike?

Customers’ biggest worry is the closing of the SBI branches. SBI will partially stop the services provided by its branches on 25th and 26th May during the “SBI Bank Strike 2026.” Face-to-face operations such as cash deposits and withdrawals, cheque submission, and loan enquiries will be greatly impacted.

With May 23 (Saturday) and May 24 (Sunday) already non-working days for most branches, customers will effectively have to deal with a 4-day SBI banking services disruption as they are not able to access SBI branch counters.

Will SBI Digital Banking Services Work?

This is the major thought in every customer’s mind. The good news is that SBI digital banking services will be mostly unaffected as they are operated automatically without the need for human intervention.

SBI YONO App

The SBI YONO App is expected to be normal during the strike. It can be used by the customer for transfer of funds, bill payments, account management and many more. But, the delay in SBI transactions in some backend processes is possible.

SBI Net Banking

SBI’s net banking should be available through its official website. Accessors will be able to log in, view account balances, move money between accounts and pay bills. It might cause some minor processing delays, but the app will continue functioning.

SBI UPI Services

SBI will also keep the UPI services running without any disruptions. UPI is processed on the NPCI system, which is not dependent on the actions of employees in the branches. It will ensure that UPI is one of the most secure options for quick payment in case of the bank strike of 2026 in India.

Will SBI ATMs be available during the strike period?

SBI ATMs will, besides, work normally as the ATM machines do not require bank employees to operate. There is, however, an important concern for you to be aware of: Replenishing of the cash at ATMs requires the presence of bank employees.  Many ATMs may run out of cash before Day 2 or 3 of the cash loading shutdown, due to the SBI Bank Strike.

Suggestion: If you need cash, get it out of the way before May 23 so you don’t run out of money.

Tips to Stay Prepared During the SBI Bank Strike

The banking union strike in India is not new, but a four-day period calls for planning.

Before the SBI Bank Strike Starts, Here’s What You Should Do:

  • Any urgent work on branches that needs to be done should be finished by May 23, such as large withdrawals, cheque deposits or submitting documents.
  • Take enough money out of the ATM’s before the weekend to last until May 26.
  • For everyday financial transactions, use SBI mobile banking and UPI — these are the sure-shot solutions.
  • Listen to official SBI announcements or follow their updates on the website for any updates or when services are expected to be restored.

Final Word

The May 2026 SBI bank Strike is likely to impact the physical branches. SBI online banking working status is positive – YONO, net banking, and UPI are all likely to continue working. The major concern is physical cash availability because banks may take some time to replenish the ATMs as a result of the bank shutdown.
