Sanjay Ray found guilty: Major decision announced in RG Kar rape and murder case
Last year, a brutal rape and murder at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata made global headlines. Today, Kolkata’s Sealdah court held Sanjay Roy, the prime suspect in the incident, guilty under three sections of the BNS.
“The minimum punishment for your crime is life imprisonment and maximum punishment is death sentence,” according to the additional district and sessions judge. The quantum of punishment is going to be announced on January 20.
Partha Sarathi Dutta – the one representing the CBI – said Roy has been found guilty under sections 66 (rape), 64 (causing injury resulting in death) and 103 (1) (murder) of BNS. The trial of Roy lasted a couple of months.
During the trial, the legal personnel representing Roy argued that evidence against the suspect had been planted to frame him, as per reports. The one representing the victim’s family demanded death sentence for Roy but argued that he is not the sole perpetrator.
