1. Hospital services remain disrupted

Hospital services in various Indian states remain disrupted due to the ongoing protests by the medical fraternity over the rape and murder of a 31-year-old post-graduate trainee doctor at the government-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.

2. Extension of demonstrations

The Federation of Resident Doctors’ Association (FORDA) has announced the extension of its indefinite strike to protest the rape and murder case. The incident has been making headlines globally. Scores of netizens have also been calling for stricter punishment.

3. Shocking revelations about Sanjay Roy

The Kolkata Police has shared more shocking details about the accused Sanjay Roy – currently under 14-day police custody. Police highlighted his addiction to pornographic content. He also apparently led an unsuccessful domestic life.

4. Other people involved?

Senior advocate Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya argued that the extent of injuries indicated in the postmortem report cannot be caused by one individual. But the state government has denied the involvement of other people in the brutal rape and murder crime.

5. Formal principal directed to go on long leave

Calcutta High Court has directed former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital Dr Sandip Ghosh to go on leave. It said that Ghosh must be impleaded as the accused, noting his appointment to another college by the state government after resignation.

The Calcutta High Court has questioned the delay on part of police in recording the statement of the former principal. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has promised to transfer the case to the CBI if the police fail to solve it by Sunday, amid public outrage.
