Is US going to take control of Gaza? Donald Trump makes major statements
During a recent press conference alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, US President Donald Trump suggested that Palestinians in Gaza should be permanently resettled in neighbouring countries as the US seeks to lead reconstruction efforts there.
His remarks stunned people both in the US and internationally. Trump insisted that the US could take control of the Gaza Strip. He described the territory as a “demolition site” that should be cleared and reconstructed.
Donald Trump’s latest proposal about Gaza comes after a series of radical foreign policy statements regarding Greenland, Panama and Canada. In the past, the US President has joked about Canada becoming the 51st US state.
Trump’s proposal represents a big break from traditional US policy – as it has historically supported a 2-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. If implemented, his plan is likely to increase tensions in the Middle East.
