The crucial meeting came as a large caravan of migrants slowly headed toward the US-Mexico border with the hopes of reaching the United States.

The Joe Biden administration is seeking the help of Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador to curb the flow of migrants into the United States. The US officials aim to reduce a record high number of migrants wanting to enter the US from Mexico.

According to a report by Reuters, Andrés Manuel López Obrador hailed the meeting between the US officials and the Mexican officials. The officials agreed to cooperate on migration.

The Mexican President told a morning press conference, “This agreement has been reached, the rail crossings and the border bridges are already being opened to normalize the situation.”

He said that the talks were “direct” due to the importance of border commerce for both countries. Previously, rail crossings were temporarily stopped due to high numbers of migrants arrival.
