In 2023, Yemen Will Take In More Than 55000 African Refugees

More than 55,000 refugees from Africa have entered the war-torn Arab nation of Yemen since the start of 2023, according to the Yemeni government.

Over 55,000 people who have fled the Horn of Africa have sought refuge in Yemen since the beginning of 2023, according to Minister of Public Health and Population Qasem Buhaibeh, according to Xinhua news agency.

According to a statement from Buhaibeh, there are now significantly more African refugees than there were three years ago at this time.

He emphasized the significance of the UN and affiliated humanitarian organizations helping African refugees and expressed his government’s firm commitment to providing affordable healthcare services to African refugees without any form of discrimination.

According to a report released on Sunday by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), more than 40,000 migrants have entered Yemen in the first four months of 2023, setting a new record.

IOM stated that “donor support is crucial to alleviating funding shortfalls and improving conditions for migrants in Yemen” and called for immediate assistance to address the challenges faced by migrants and ensure the delivery of basic services.

Tens of thousands of migrants continue to pass through Yemen on their way from the Horn of Africa to Saudi Arabia despite the country’s protracted civil war.

According to the UN, migrants in Yemen live in unfavorable conditions and lack adequate shelter and services.

Since the Houthi militia, supported by Iran, took control of several northern provinces in late 2014 and drove the Saudi-backed government out of the capital city Sanaa, Yemen has been engulfed in civil war.
