5 Big Changes in CGHS Rules Every Central Govt Pensioner Must Know in 2025

The Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) went digital in 2025 to make healthcare services easier for government pensioners through online options. The Union Health Ministry started and carried out the changes. They introduced five main features to boost transparency, improve efficiency and enhance convenience for millions of users.

1. What is the New HMIS Portal and CGHS Mobile App?

In order to avoid long queues and physical visits, the ministry has launched a new HMIS portal (www.cghs.mohfw.gov.in) and mobile app. Pensioners can book appointments, download e-Cards, view test reports and consult specialists from home now. As a result, healthcare has become easier to access.

2. How Does the PAN-Based Unique ID Help?

All CGHS beneficiaries will now receive a unique ID linked to their PAN, replacing earlier disparate documentation. This ID will hold all the medical records of all family members, eliminate fraud and allow access to services with a single login.

3. How Has the Payment System Been Simplified?

The old BharatKosh has been replaced by an operational digital payments system within the HMIS portal. All subscriptions and renewals will be approved immediately and will not have paper receipts, nor will they have to wait for manual approval.

4. What About Medical Devices Like CPAP or BiPAP?

In the past, applying for essential devices took unnecessary paperwork and time. Now, pensioners can apply for life-saving equipment such as oxygen concentrators, CPAP or BiPAP machines online, which helps to reduce wait times from weeks down to five days.

5. How Will Pensioners Stay Informed?

Beneficiaries now also receive instant SMS and email alerts for application status, approval and payment confirmation. This system keeps users informed and allows tech-shy seniors to feel like they are still involved in their control of health.

With these ongoing changes, CGHS is not only more efficient; it is now a digital health partner for India’s retired public servants.
