Dr. Philbert Aaron, Permanent Representative of Dominica to the UN, represented Dominica. The signing ceremony was hosted at the Permanent Mission of Maldives in New York.
Maldivian passport holders can now enjoy visa-free access to Dominica and the same goes for Dominican citizens visiting the Maldives. This move is likely to enhance greater movement of people and strengthen ties between two island nations.
The Maldives’ Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that this development will streamline the travel process and provide potential for new cultural and economic opportunities.
This enhances the ever expanding global mobility of the Maldivian passport. According to the Henley & Partners Passport Index, it is the most powerful passport in South Asia with over 90 countries providing visa free or visa on arrival access.
