CEO Sundar Pichai drops hints of another major Google layoffs
Tech giant Google is continuing its layoff spree this year, too. Chief Executive Officer Sundar Pichai recently announced in an all-hands meeting that the company has eliminated 10% of its managerial positions, including directors and VPs.
Google has been trying to streamline its operations for the past couple of years. The latest round of job cuts happened Wednesday. Some roles have been shifted to individual contributor positions, but others are cut entirely.
Sundar Pichai clarifies meaning of ‘Googleyness’
The saga of layoffs at Google started a couple of years ago as CEO Pichai announced a plan to make the technology giant more efficient. Last year, restructuring efforts resulted in the layoff of more than 12,000 employees.
During the recent meeting, the top executive apparently also highlighted the meaning of ‘Googleyness’. He explained that the term had become too vague. Trying to simplify the concept, he focused on key principles such as team spirit and innovation.
