U.S. President Donald Trump’s claim of ignorance on the ongoing American imports of Russian chemicals and fertilizers headlines as the President’s answer from 5 August goes viral. Following India’s assertion that the U.S. continues purchasing uranium and other goods from Russia, Trump’s comments came after he threatened higher tariffs on India over Russian oil imports.
India firmly rejected the move as the Ministry of External Affairs called it “unjustified and unreasonable”, highlighting the U.S. and EU’s own continued trade with Russia, defending its energy imports as essential for national and consumer security.
“India is not only buying massive amounts of Russian Oil, they are then, for much of the oil purchased, selling it on the open market for big profits. They don’t care how many people in Ukraine are being killed by the Russian War Machine. Because of this, I will be substantially raising the Tariff paid by India to the U.S.A. Thank you for your attention to this matter!!!” President Trump had said in a post on Truth Social on Monday, after “sustainably raising India’s Tariff” over the purchase of Russian Oil.
