US Dockworkers and Employers to Resume High-Stakes Contract Talks on Jan 7
New contract talks between the International Longshoremen’s Association that represents dockworkers in the United States and their employers are expected to begin on January 7, Bloomberg News indicated. This comes at a time when the country waits with bated breath for a potential strike that threatens to derail the supply chain.
The negotiations which have been due to outstanding issues, will involve the leaders from both sides in relation to various important aspects like wages, benefits and others. The culmination of these discussions is important because of the importance of ports in sustaining import/export revenues throughout the United States.
Sources quoted in Bloomberg have claimed that both sides faced rising pressure to agree so that it does not strike which will affect industries whose business involves ports. The situation is critical since the whole world’s economic IPO and global trade balance is at the line.
Businesses and stakeholders all over the country will be following the negotiations closely, in the hope of reaching the January 7 meeting with a solution to any problems that could have potentially disrupted the negotiations in the first place.
