Latest Israel-Gaza Updates: Need for immediate ceasefire gets more serious

The brutal Israel-Hamas fighting has been raging on since October 7, 2023, as Hamas unleashed an attack on southern Israeli cities, killing some 1,200 people. Israel has killed tens of thousands of people in Gaza in retaliatory strikes.

The need for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza has not been this urgent. Hundreds of thousands of people lack access to basic supplies. There is a possibility of an irreversible humanitarian collapse in Gaza, if proper efforts are not put into a truce deal.

Latest Israel-Gaza Updates:

1. Putin and Netanyahu go on a call

It has been reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu just held a telephonic discussion. Putin has called the situation in the Palestinian territory a “humanitarian catastrophe”.

2. Number of missing people soars

In addition to more than 1,300 people confirmed killed trying to approach GHF-run aid distribution centres in the Gaza Strip, many other people also remain missing. Families in Gaza are searching endlessly for their loved ones.

3. Mike Johnson on meticulous tour

US House Speaker Mike Johnson visited the illegal settlement in the occupied West Bank on Monday as part of a private visit to Israel. His trip is expected to be unusually long as he is scheduled to leave on August 10, according to a report from Axios.

4. Rising number of casualties

The Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Younis has received a number of patients across its emergency and outpatient departments in 24 hours as bombings and displacements continue to harm the fragile health infrastructure of Gaza.

5. 100+ journalists sign petition to be let in

The crisis in Gaza has also been one of the deadliest conflicts for journalists. More than 100 journalists, photographers and more have signed a petition demanding “immediate and unsupervised foreign press access to the Gaza Strip“. Is it going to be possible?
