UK Raises Minimum Salary Requirements for Skilled Worker Visas

The UK government took new immigration rules for Skilled Worker visa holders that target employment exploitation while assuring fair wages. Beginning April 9 the Skilled Worker visa program adds a £25,000 minimum salary requirement replacing the current £23,200 level. This converts to an hourly wage of £12.82 for those working 37.5-hour weeks.

To fix care sector problems English businesses need to employ foreign care workers present in the country first when obtaining sponsor licenses. Care providers must prove their attempts to hire English workers with new sponsorship requests before considering foreign staff.

During July 2022 – December 2024 the government canceled 470 care sector sponsor licenses to protect vulnerable people. From October 2020 until the present time the government terminated licenses for businesses that managed 39,000 employees.

The British government makes updates to the Short-Term Student route because many people use it without valid study backgrounds before returning to their home countries.

Other key aspects of the immigration changes include:

They now use current Office for National Statistics wage data to set salary limits

The new rules boost the starting salaries for medical staff such as doctors, nurses, and teachers based on official medical and education pay levels in the countryThe authorities will keep working to stop misuse of Student and Graduate visa options

UK immigration reforms take the next step to develop a labor-based strategy that both fills workplace needs and fights illegal employment.
