Black History Month 2025: Honoring “African Americans and Labour”
African Americans and Labor theme addressing the significant contributions Africans made to this nation’s history of its labor, spanning from the enslavement years to present day people experience shall be the theme for February 2025.
The 2025 theme also delves into the varied roles that African Americans have taken on within the shaping of the American workforce. It walks through some aspects of slavery addressed in conjunction with instances of forced labor and touches on union involvement for better pay and working conditions. It highlights the hard fought successes of African American entrepreneurs and professionals across a variety of sectors.
Black History Month is a month-long observance of the histories, cultures and contributions of African Americans. It was initiated by Carter G. Woodson in 1926 as Negro History Week and grew into a month-long celebration of national scope in 1976. A theme is selected each year that focuses attention on particular aspects of Black history and culture.
Various events, exhibitions and discussions will be organized across the country throughout February to explore and honor African Americans contributions to labor. These will be learning and motivational opportunities to highlight the strength and determination of Black workers throughout history.
