Uber, Swiggy, Ola, and Zomato workers are set to hold strike on 25 October. Many services like food delivery, cab services, and more will shut down on October 25, 2023, Wednesday, because of the strike.

Uber, Swiggy, Ola, and Zomato workers will hold a strike on 25 October in Pune, a city in the western Indian state of Maharashtra. Dr. Keshav Kshirsagar, President of the Baghtoy Rickshawala Association in Pune, has said that drivers of cabs, rickshaws, and bikes will also hold a strike. 

The delivery boys and girls who work for food delivery and cabs will also take part in the strike. People living in Pune will not be able to order any food delivery or book a cab for traveling. 

What is the reason behind the mass strike?

Uber, Swiggy, Ola, and Zomato workers are calling for a mass strike because their demands are not met. They have some demands regarding their safety and salaries. They have urged the Indian government to enact the Gig Workers Registration and Welfare Act in Maharashtra. 

Uber, Swiggy, Ola, and Zomato workers said that some businesses allegedly exploit the employees. They called for the enactment of legislation to prevent workers from exploitation at the workplace. 

Who has organized the strike?

Indian Gig Workers Front’s Joint Action Committee has organized the upcoming mass strike. The strike will be held to ensure that the Gig Workers Registration and Welfare Act and the Cab Aggregator Act are approved during the ensuing winter session.
