Turkey topped the list of countries whose people are exposed to violations of human rights, as the proportion of violations in Turkey increased in 2018 by 20% from the previous year, and Turkey came fourth in terms of the number of files on violations.

Statistics by the European Court of Human Rights for the judicial year 2018 indicate that Turkey violated Article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights to protect freedom of thought and expression of opinion in 40 lawsuits.

Regarding the violation of various sections of Article VI related to the right to a fair trial, Turkey ranked second with 53 convictions. Turkey also topped the list for violating articles of the European Convention on Human Rights in 140 lawsuits.

To date, the European Court of Human Rights has ruled that Turkey has violated at least one of its articles in 3,188 lawsuits.

Since the coup attempt, the Turkish authorities have arrested tens of thousands of military and public sector employees, teachers and judges, claiming that they belonged to the Fatah Allah Gülen cleric based in the United States.

And that period witnessed the death of about 200 people in suspicious conditions, or under torture, or because of illness due to poor prison conditions, and the flight of tens of thousands of people out of the country, according to recent reports published by international organizations, including the Amnesty International report at the beginning of last May.

On March 10, Suleiman Soylu, the Turkish Interior Minister, revealed the arrest of 511 thousand people, of whom 30 thousand and 821 were arrested, as part of the operations that targeted the Fatah Allah Gülen group and the PKK since the alleged coup attempt.

On January 3, the same minister announced that the number of detainees in 2018 reached 750 thousand and 239 people, among them more than 52 thousand only on suspicion of belonging to the Turkish preacher residing in Washington.

Freedoms in Turkey decreased dramatically after the alleged coup attempt, and increased the repression and imprisonment of journalists, the demobilization of opponents, and the arrest of opponents, the military and judges, until it became a country full of mistrust, fear, and oppression. To see more news Human Rights Latest News
