texas flies 120 migrants to chicago; johnson says texas governor ‘creates chaos’
Texas, a state in the South Central region of the United States, flew 120 migrants from El Paso to Chicago on Tuesday as part of Gov. Greg Abbott’s migrant policy. It was the first time a private plane was used by the state to send migrants to Chicago.
Gregory Wayne Abbott, the Governor of Texas, launched a policy of transporting recently arrived migrants to Democratic-led cities. Brandon Johnson, the Mayor of Chicago, said that the Texas governor created chaos.
A spokesperson for the Texas governor confirmed that the Texas authorities sent the migrant plane to Chicago, and more flights were on their way.
The plane, carrying migrants, landed at O’Hare International Airport in Chicago at 7:15 p.m on Tuesday. There were 120 people on the plane. The migrants are now staying at O’Hare. Around 300 people are currently living at O’Hare, including the 120 newly arrived migrants.
Since April last year, the Texas governor has ordered to send buses with migrants to Washington, D.C., New York City, Chicago, Philadelphia, Denver and Los Angeles.
So far, Texas sent more than 80,000 people in migrant buses from border cities to those six cities. For the first time on Tuesday, Texas used a private plane to transport immigrant passengers.
According to a report by WTTW, Mayor Brandon Johnson said that Abbott was determined to “create chaos throughout the entire country.”
Mayor Brandon Johnson told WTTW News’ “Chicago Tonight: Black Voices”, “Chicago has been targeted.”
Earlier this month, the Chicago mayor filed lawsuit against companies transporting ‘rogue buses’ of migrants. Johnson launched dozens of lawsuits against “rogue” bus companies for transporting migrants from the southern border to the city. The Johnson administration wanted to stop the transportation of migrants.
Amid the migrant crisis, Republican governors have sent buses of migrants to Democrat-controlled states. Johnson’s administration filed lawsuits against those behind the transportation of migrants.
Chicago announced it would crack down on migrant buses in mid-November. The mayor also imposed a fine on owners of buses up to $3,000.
As the United States continues to grapple with the migrant crisis, it remains to be seen how the authorities will balance the needs of migrants.
