In a firm reply to the terrible explosion that happened at Sigachi Industries’ chemical factory at Pashamylaram, Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, on Tuesday, announced a fair compensation plan. Each family of the deceased will receive INR 1 crore, jointly from the company and state government. INR 10 lakh will be provided for seriously injured and INR 5 lakh to those injured but have returned to work after recovery.

Earlier, Reddy declared an immediate relief of INR 1 lakh for the families of the deceased and INR 50,000 for the injured people to meet their emergency expenses. He confirmed that the death toll has risen to 36 and that several others are still missing. Of the 143 workers who were present during the blast, only 56 have been traced so far.

Chief Minister Reddy inspected the explosion site and Patancheru hospital before chairing a review meeting with officials. The Chief Minister questioned the Director of Factories about inspections and regulatory lapses. The Chief Minister asked for a detailed report identifying the cause of the explosion. In doing so, he rejected any superficial explanations for the explosion and wanted an expert-backed report.

He also held the management of Sigachi Industries accountable, asking for the heads of their company to be present and stressing the need for humanity in their response. Ministers Sridhar Babu and Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, along with others, were present and showed dissatisfaction with the delay and response from the company.

The government of Andhra Pradesh and Sigachi will also pay all medical costs for those injured. CM Reddy promised strict action against whoever was responsible for the terrible incident.
