It reduced their revenues to below $1.3 billion in 2024 for the international route trade facilitation as compared to an average revenue of $3.65 billion they received in 2023 in Egypt they noted because of increased insecurity in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab. Canal’s receipts implications: this is important as receipts are part of the source used in funding foreign stock and, proposals for national projects.

Modernisation Efforts to Counter Challenges

Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi recently met with the Chairman of a vital waterway, the Suez Canal Authority, Lieutenant General Osama Rabie, to deliberate on issues affecting the canal. Among these are current programs to deepen and widen; the southern part of the canal and canal stretch between km. 132 – 162. These projects intend to allow even greater capabilities to be granted to ships and increase the Dodd’s Canal’s importance in the supply chain networks.

Efforts are also made to enhance the fishing fleet, especially in line with international standards similar to those of Egypt. Such measures are believed to strengthen the canal and enhance its competitiveness in view of the increasing challenges in the international business environment.

President Al-Sisi’s Directives

Speaking at the broad consultation level, President Al-Sisi vowed to further implement development works for enhancing the navigation facilities. He highlighted the importance of canal to the global trade as well as income earners for Egypt. Improvement of the measures to reduce the impacts of the regional instability on navigation was another major concern in the talks.

This strategic initiative lies in line with an acknowledged policy aimed at preserving the canal’s prominence in the global economy and its sustainable future development.
